Advancing Earth science education in Oklahoma

Since 1993, Oklahoma Geological Foundation has funded grants and scholarships that expand Earth science education for teachers, students, and schools across Oklahoma — thanks to the generous support of our donors and sponsors.

Inspiring the next generation of scientists

Earth science helps students understand the world around them, from the rocks and minerals beneath their feet to the natural resources and geological history that shape Oklahoma. Through programs that fund Earth science experiments, field trips, field camp study, hands-on learning materials, and much more, Oklahoma Geological Foundation works to advance Earth science education across the state.

From elementary classrooms to graduate programs, the Foundation supports opportunities that inspire curiosity, encourage discovery, and help build the future of geoscience in Oklahoma.

Rock, Mineral & Fossil Collections

Our Rock, Mineral & Fossil Collections bring science to life for students of all ages as they get hands-on with rocks, minerals, and fossils. Each collection includes 30+ museum-quality rocks, minerals, and fossils that students can see and touch when learning about Earth science during classroom lessons.

GeoKIDS Activity Kits

The GeoKIDS (Geology Explorers in Oklahoma: Kids Investigation and Doing Science) program is funded by the Foundation in collaboration with the Oklahoma Geological Survey. When GeoKIDS visits a school, library, or other community event, each child receives a small collection of rocks, minerals, or fossils to take home.

Grants & Scholarships

Our grant and scholarship programs support everything from elementary classroom science experiments to middle school field trips to graduate student field camp grants. These programs have made an incredible impact on Earth science education and the future of geoscience in Oklahoma.

Community Outreach

Community events are a big part of the Foundation’s mission to raise awareness about Earth science education. Volunteers regularly attend STEM-focused events with hands-on activities to inspire the next generation to pursue careers in geoscience and share information about grants for Earth science teachers.

About the Foundation

We directly support Earth science education in Oklahoma in multiple ways — from grant funding for science experiments and field trips to supporting the future of geoscience by providing field camp grants to graduate students. Through it all, we advocate for Earth science education and aim to inspire the next generation of scientists.

Support the Foundation through our annual events

The Foundation hosts four events each year to celebrate excellence in Earth science education, raise money to support the Foundation, honor legends in the field of geoscience, and say thank you to our volunteers and donors.

Support the Foundation by attending or sponsoring one of these annual events.

Awards Banquet

Our annual Ronnie K. Irani Oklahoma Geological Foundation Awards Banquet honors the recipients of our grants, scholarships, and other awards. Come celebrate Earth science excellence with us and be inspired by the incredible students, teachers, and organizations receiving funding.

Legends Dinner

Each November, we gather to honor individuals who have made an impact in the field of geoscience or in their community. The Legends Dinner serves as a cornerstone event for the Foundation by reinforcing its mission to support geoscience education, honor industry pioneers, and inspire future generations.
